FAQs

What does “On Hold” mean

When an item is marked “On Hold” it is generally not available for immediate delivery. This can be because we are crafting new pieces due to high demand or is being previewed by another customer. If you contact us, we can give you an indication of the likely delivery lead time should you wish to purchase the item or recommend similar pieces that might be available for immediate dispatch.

Our Warranty & Guarantee

Bibelot London always strives to deliver the highest possible standards of craft and quality and, reflecting this commitment, we offer a full lifetime warranty on all purchases and guarantee our jewellery to be as described in our documentation and reports.

The warranty is based on maintaining the condition of the jewellery at the time of sale, subject to an appropriate level of wear and tear. If the jewellery has been damaged beyond a reasonable level of expected wear and tear, then the warranty will not be applicable and we reserve the right to charge for the service.

Media Imaging

As an e-commerce jewellery company, we understand the concerns about shopping for such unique and valuable items online. Great care is taken to capture our items’ true colour properties. Our specialist photographers endeavour to capture the most accurate colour and clarity of all our jewellery.

However, we do not have control over the brightness and colour settings of individual home computer monitors, smartphones, tablets, laptops etc. While we test the colour accuracy of al of our images across multiple devices, there is no uniform standard to brightness of colour tone from one monitor to the next. In the event that you are not satisfied with the colouring of any item received, you will of course have the option of returning the item within the 14-day inspection period (see Returns policy).

How soon can I have my order delivered?

If an item is in stock, then it can usually be shipped within 24 hours. In all cases, we will be in contact with you before the item is dispatched to confirm delivery arrangements and approximate timings. If it is showing as "on hold" it is currently being viewed by a customer. If the item is sold, then a similar piece can be ordered or we are happy to advise on alternate ideas.

Can my ring be re-sized?

Essentially yes! See below for advice on how much a ring can be re-sized.

How many sizes is it safe to size a ring?

It's usually possible to size up or down 2 sizes either way unless there are lots and lots of small diamonds in which case it is safer to make a new ring. Where re-sizing is possible, we will complete the work for you, although you will be responsible for returning the ring to us for the work to be done.

How will my order be packaged?

We post by Royal Mail special delivery in the UK (or courier outside the UK), as such the outer packaging is anonymous, the inner packaging for your jewellery is fantastically vibrant!

Are your pieces hallmarked?

Hallmarking is a legal requirement and all of our pieces are hallmarked (we use platinum and 18ct yellow, rose and white gold) by the London Assay office. The hallmark is your warranty not only of the metal type of the purity of the bullion. This is an official process and stamp that you will not get from retailers outside of the UK.

Can you engrave my jewellery?

Yes, we offer an engraving service for an additional charge. If you wish to take advantage of this service, please contact us with details and we can provide an estimate for the cost of engraving and lead time Please note that once an item has been engraved it is no longer able to be returned for a refund due to its personalisation.

Do you provide valuations for insurance for your jewellery?

All jewellery ordered from the site comes with both an invoice and valid Bibelot valuation.

Do you make bespoke jewellery?

Yes we do. Please get in touch and we will be happy to talk you through the process should you wish to investigate this.

What is your returns policy?

Please see the returns policy section.

Is shopping with you secure?

Yes. We utilise a Shopify platform which is fully compliant with the FCA and meets all relevant secure standards.

Metal Care

Our rings, earrings and pendants are mounted to the highest standards in either platinum or 18ct yellow, white or rose gold.

We use rhodium plating on our white gold jewellery which is prone to fade with time; however, because we only make pendants and earrings with 18ct white gold (and there is only minimal abrasion against other surfaces), the rhodium plating is very long lasting. Equally, in the event it is required, re-polishing and rhodium plating of earrings or pendants is a very straightforward process.

Is it true that 18ct white gold loses its polish?

Yes it is! 18ct white gold is 18 parts yellow gold with 6 parts a white metal. This mixture is not white and so rhodium plating is applied. Rhodium wears off as a ring abrades against surfaces with everyday wear, as such the plating wears over time. It is a very simple process to re-polish and plate. It is less of an issue with earrings and pendants because they don't wear against hard surfaces very much.

Is it possible to bend or scratch platinum and gold

Yes it is! Both platinum and gold will rub against other surfaces and as a result it is very usual for scratches to appear. If you're a keen gym goer, rider, cyclist, kayaker, water sports enthusiast etc, it might be worth taking your rings off prior to engaging in your pastime! Clearly earrings and pendants are less of an issue.

Can stones fall out of their setting and what do I do if that happens?

Stones do fall out of jewellery, although, fortunately, it is rare. It is very unusual for stones simply to fall out.. We offer a lifetime guarantee for all our pieces (please visit the section for exact details) as long as any damage is "reasonable". Simply give us a call and we will be happy to inspect and, where reasonable, replace stones/repair. If a piece has been damaged beyond a “reasonable” level, however, this guarantee would not apply and a fee would be payable.

Insuring my jewellery

We don't offer jewellery insurance; however we work closely with, and recommend TH March who provide specialist insurance cover which is flexible, practical and affordable.
